The Social Services provided by The Salvation Army Corps, in Grand Island Nebraska, is designed to assist those families and individuals in emergencies which cannot be met by other agencies. Emergency Assistance will be handled on a case by case basis depending on individual need.
EMERGENCY MATERIAL ASSISTANCE
1. Names of everyone in household.
2. Social Security numbers of everyone in the household.
3. Address.
4. Birthdates of everyone in household.
A. FOOD PANTRY: Assistance is based upon availability of groceries. The quantity of supplies provided will vary according to the number of persons in the household. Income guidelines apply. The food pantry can only be accessed once every 4 months, or 3 times per year. Considerations may be made in verifiable emergencies.
The following emergency/deductions can be applied to bring a family within the income guidelines.
Outstanding medical bills, outstanding vehicle repairs, or home repairs. Deductions must exceed $150 to qualify.

B. THRIFT STORE VOUCHERS:
Based on availability of merchandise and established need, a voucher shall be issued for the following amounts.
Vouchers can only be given once every six months.
Furniture is not available by voucher. Exceptions may be made for fire victims.

C. MEALS:
The hot meals program is available to anyone in the community and is open from 7:00 A.M. until 8:30 A.M. for breakfast. And 5:15 P.M. until 6:30 P.M. for dinner, Monday thru Friday.
D. SHELTER: Shelter is only accessible by single males, females and families are not eligible for Shelter, outside referrals will be made to serve these populations. Shelter stays and availability will be determined by the Social Services Case Manager. Shelter intake is available from 4:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. Any photo ID is acceptable, but a photo ID must be present for shelter entry.
E. GUIDANCE AND REFERRAL SERVICES: The Salvation Army will make every effort to network with existing social services so as to meet the needs of each person in the most efficient and appropriate manner.
F. DISASTER SERVICES: The Salvation Army of Grand Island, Nebraska, maintains a local Emergency Disaster Unit which may be mobilized upon the request of Emergency Management, Civil Defense, the Fire and/or Police Departments, or the Emergency Dive and Rescue Team. Usually this is in response to the need of agencies responding to major situations. (Fire, Flood, Tornado, Drowning, etc.)
